  • That helps. I think you misunderstood - what I was trying to say was something quite similar: the person I replied to (who I think wasn’t you) was talking about access to family planning, and I was saying this has been available in developed countries for a long time. So although it did lead to a decrease in birth rate decades ago, it’s only recently that we see sub-replacement rates, so that latter effect specifically is likely not to do with access to family planning.

    Hope that also helps, haha!

  • Will anyone learn to be less vociferous with their AI accusations, or only be more vociferous with their dislike for AI and so to make more dubious accusations?

I saw a recent David Revoy comic that everyone here on Lemmy was accusing of being AI. Which is really tragic for someone who goes to such effort, is such a supporter of free software, and in my opinion has a style which is quite far from typical AI output.

  • I think it’s uncharitable to assume that, and the risk of assuming the best is tiny, whilst the risk of assuming the worst is everyone getting angry with each other for no reason. I don’t know if OP is a man and I don’t want to go checking every user’s gender before deciding what I think about what they’ve said, and even if I did, I think there are situations where men can make the same light-hearted jokes as women - whether it’s ok depends on a lot more than that.

That’s more or less what I’d assumed you meant initially, but I similarly wasn’t going to assume that without checking, because launching into an argument based on an assumption of what you meant could just lead to you getting angry with me, whilst the risk of me challenging my own assumption and waiting to see carried only the risk that I’d never know.
