[Jesus sits on a rock, speaking]
A new command I give you:
Love one another

[an angry character talks back to Jesus]
What if they’re something bad like gay, trans, brown, or communist though?

[Jesus is facepalming on his rock]
I don’t want to be a messiah anymore

completely discarding multiple sources written by multiple people saying the same thing as evidence

They are not saying that independently, they were all members of the same cult, and the stories are clearly inspired by the stories that precede.

They might not be good evidence, but they still are evidence.

When it’s 5 levels removed from what’s considered reliable historical evidence, no it should no longer be considered evidence.
That’s like saying that because there are many Harry Potter books, they are stronger evidence for his existence, by your standard, the existence of Harry Potter must be a definite certainty.

“Oh no, let’s disregard everything written in this amazingly preserved textual corpus because I want to hurt those meanies”

Delusions based on superstition is harmful to both the individual and society as a whole, this is a solidly proven fact.
The book should probably no be completely discarded, I can understand historians using it to understand the thinking and culture of the time.
But to believe the supernatural things described in the Bible is an extreme lack of critical thinking.
