The Warsaw Pact was a reciprocal protective coalition formed of socialist countries. All states are “authoritarian,” as all states are monopolies on violence in the hands of a given class. The distinction between the “authoritarian” states in NATO and the “authoritarian” states in the Warsaw Pact is that the NATO side represented capitalists, while the Warsaw Pact represented the working classes.
