Fear of society to collapse or civil war to break out, I guess. Sentence could use a “still”
Microw@lemm.eeto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL there're hundreds of recognised sub-national monarchies all across Africa. While no longer sovereign, these monarchies retain political, cultural, and religious influence in their communitiesEnglish4·4 months agoNot only an African thing. Historically cultural leaders exist in lots of places around the world. For example in Europe certain places still hand bishops some local traditional roles. Germany still has titular princes and dukes that hold no political role. Etc.

Inaccurate white marble! Those statues should be painted
Given that the state-run media used to fearmonger with horror stories about Germans before Tusks party won the last election… I’d think it’s only partly a joke. Tusk knows that there are Poles who still think Germans are all criminals (like vice versa in Germany).

In parts of Europe people choose to sleep on the streets even though they would get free sleeping places in social projects. (And they have their own reasons for that, and it’s fine. But still: they have that option here, it’s not like they are forced to sleep on the street).
Judging what a bad position in life is is pretty subjective.
There are some we can probably all agree on as a bad position, but none of those portrayed here fit those.

Microw@lemm.eeto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL that his museum says that "Roald Dahl’s racism is undeniable and indelible"English9·1 year agoWell if you say there is “a trait in a group of peoples’ character” then you should be called racist. This has nothing to do with being against religions.

Apparently he was made Deputy CEO only this year, but has been with Paradox for years. I really wonder: does he get picked to announce these things because no one else wants to take responsibility? Or is he the one stepping in where the rest of the management have let things run out of control?

There have been semi-successful Youtube creators who transitioned into the studio system, who mostly never were big on-screen personas but rather worked behind the cameras.
The Corridor Crew has talked about how they always wanted to make it in Hollywood, but when they were finally being offered deals it simply was not financially or creatively wise to give up their business just in order to be part of a system where others are in control.
