Basically been on a rampage since summer… I’ve been going out to entirely too many shows lately.

I should go back and finish either way. I definitely get a bit snobby about animation (old school have drawn purist, can’t handle 95% of the 3D stuff happening a bunch now), but still cool to see these stories unfold as an animated series. I just know it will be hard to avoid looking for the shortcuts and rough bits. Hard to turn the snobbery off sometimes. 🥲

Relevant af… Been flirting with the idea of finally buying pro DJ gear after like 16 years of being a DJ. Have done a jillion weddings, and a healthy dose of misc functions from corporate shindigs, galas, house parties, bars, etc…

Have limped along so far by borrowing gear whenever I had a proper gig (plenty of friends in the scene) but now I have some fun money budget. The spicy pro gear is soooo stupidly expensive but about time I had real gear off my own. The cereal box bedroom toy deck only gets you so far.

Saw episode one, thought it was dope. Saw drama about the immediate drop in quality before I caught episode 2 and now it’s been a bit hard to wanna jump back in.

That kickoff was so well done! Ya hate to see the immediate contrast…

For me at least, I’m uncomfy with like, how close furry’s rejected Disney mascot kink is to a beastiality kink. Not to say they’re even that close! I’m surely oversensitive here! But I think that’s where my overall lack of pure acceptance comes from.

Fully, a MASSIVE amount of what I’m into now came from Tony Hawk games and [adult swim] and the trajectory that put me on. [adult swim] was for sure the MTV of my generation.

By the time I was watching MTV, it was still some TRL and music vids, but also a big dose of Room Raiders, etc… And it eventually fell out of fashion. [AS] definitely had their finger on the pulse of what the cool cats were to tho. Such a hip scene. I still vividly recall a bump for Boondocks featuring Flying Lotus’ song Massage Situation that felt mind blowing.

Weird to think where I’d be without either.

As an easily-distracted multitasker I can certainly appreciate the inconvenience of clicking past it. Would be lovely to have a solid on/off in settings to omit the optional from playback.

Hot take but hasn’t been a problem for me. Like, the feature stays off until I turn it on again, and I only turn it on when I’m trying to expand a playlist.

I use Spotify for discovering new songs, mostly for adding to the DJ arsenal. I listen to a lot of music. Enough that I make like 15-20ish playlists a year for various subgenres of tunes either released or discovered that year.

Since I compartmentalize my genres so methodically, smart recommendations tend to be on the money and more of what I’m looking for. But again, when I just wanna hear what I’ve assembled I just leave it off – never on unless I turn it on.

Definitely been eyeballing alternatives though, since Spotty is getting deeper into their enshitty arc.

Now, I’ve thankfully been committed in a ship for a while now so can’t speak to modern dating scene (fuck it looks bleak for lads in them middle thirties), but I always leaned on my funny bones more than anything back when I was making moves. That and, now this is pretty obvious, just treating women like regular people – cause they are! (Duh).

I never tried too hard to “have game.” I’ve just been a perpetually evolving amalgamation of shit I find cool. If you’re just naturally comfortable and confident in your skin, and visibly having the most fun in the room it’s way more attractive than trying too hard. Desperation reeks. Least that’s my take.

Shit is scary out there. Had a situation recently that definitely reinforced how spooky it is being a woman in public.

So I’m chilling with the crew at a bar, came out to catch a homie mixing originals. One of our friends is a cutie. She’s with 3 of us fellas. We’re in a booth, very obviously a group that came here together. One of the regulars kicks it with us for a bit, harmless banter, classic bar chat shit.

He ends up chilling for a while. We’re cracking jokes & having fun, he says his dude owns the bar, etc. He gets a bit flirty (again, felt fully harmless at the time), goes to fetch us a round of brew. She only wanted a water by this stage in the night. When she finally gets around to taking a small sip all her internal alarm bells go off, thinks sum’m tastes off.

We manage to pick up the vibe and dip before anything extra sketch went down and had a lil debrief, made sure everyone was ok etc… One of my dudes had also taken a decent gulp first and seemingly got pretty woozy off it. Now, I can’t for sure confirm whether it was truly laced or just shitty dirty bar hose water and a mild panic attack. Can’t say whether homie was chemically woozy or placebo woozy (very well could’ve been tired from long day and lots of brew + dancing), but either way, enough to be a scary situation! We’re like 95% sure shit was sketchy.

Absolutely worth trusting the gut when you get an off feeling. Better safe than sorry, all that. As a dude, I’ve NEVER needed to think twice about a gift beverage at a bar. I circle lots of music scenes and almost every single time I’m out I’ll catch a random free drink, smoke, lol candy or whatever off a stranger randomly offering. I’ve definitely asked to confirm what these gifts are, but generally felt safe enough to take their answers at face value.

Ladies DEFINITELY can’t be as cavalier about gifts from strangers though… That’s how they end up the subject of these crime podcasts.

There’s a sweet spot for sure. With FromSoft games the best strategy was often sleeping on it for a day. Gives the brain time to defrag and better learn moves, timing, etc. Coming back to Sekiro after an extended hiatus was pretty brutal though.
