6·16 days agoLoanwords can change meanings after borrowing. “Pasta” in German and English refers the Italian specialties, while pasta in Italian means any kind of noodle and even some dumplings. “Noodle” kept its meaning in English from German nudel / Dutch noedel.

11·16 days agoEnglish is not my native tongue, but going by Wikipedia (written by native speakers I hope) “noodle” does in fact refer to a lot more than “long thin strands”, as does the source words nudel (German) / noedel (Dutch) in their respective languages.
