I live in the USA, and I used to deliver food. I would always use people’s knockers if their door had them. 9/10 times they were like “what the hell is that sound? Ohhh the knocker! I’ve lived here X years and no one’s ever used that before!” became probably my favorite part of an otherwise boring job 😂

  • That’s not how clothes work, these days you either get fast fashion or tailored. There’s basically nothing left in between because of the economics of the industry. If you’re doing readymade clothing, you gotta do it at scale (and it’s never going to fit a lot of people). This is exactly what the Luddites predicted; tailored clothes for very rich people, slop for everyone else.

  • I was at a party one time. Right before covid, so not super recently, but more recent than 20-30 years ago. Older guy was complaining about young people complaining about housing costs. “Just buy a cheap house in %suburb! You could get one for $200,000,” he said.

I was like “uhhh I’ll call that bluff. I’m in the market right now. I’ve been preapproved for $300,000 and I can’t find a house around here. If you can find me a house in %suburb for $200,000, I’ll pay you a $10,000 finders fee.”

This dude spent the next two hours of the party not talking to anyone, locked in on his phone, looking at real estate listings. Then he finally apologized to me and was like “wow, I really didn’t know it was so bad.”

  • Controversial opinion but seeing people repost the same tired ass arguments that we all get from the media actually isn’t that helpful to anything.

Put another way, I already have to tolerate people who disagree with me all day every day at work and in daily life and so on. If I want to learn something I’ll go read an actual book on the subject. Subjecting myself to online shitposting may not be as helpful.

There is nothing intellectually stunting about seeking community with people who are less argumentative, just like there is nothing enlightening about arguing with people who are posting in bad faith.

  • There are a lot of drugs, but “stupid mistakes made while hurrying, and then not taking the time to fix them” is the #1 issue. Everyone is obsessed with hurrying, and few people recognize how mucy time is wasted by hurrying. It’s bad. I plan to build a house by myself next year, because I can’t find contractors/workers who will go slowly enough to avoid making mistakes. They just want to do more fast, crappy projects so they can make more money, which I can understand, but don’t respect.
