Yes!! Thank you. And the number of people who defend its use here on Lemmy is honestly a little alarming.

Before they come pouring in here, yes, I’m aware there are legitimate uses this way. But most of the time in casual conversation - nah, you sound gross.

Reminds me of Ferengi. I’ve used the word, obviously, but I have such a strong association of the word with the way the Ferengi on star trek say it, that even when talking about plumbing or electrical sockets, I feel sort of gross saying the word. It just feels disrespectful. :/

I’m new to Star Trek. I’m just on 2nd season of TNG. The original series is a bit too old for me, so I skipped it. I don’t have problem watching movies from 50s, I watched a lot of Hitchcock movies, but Star Trek is sci-fi and visual effect are not doing it for me.

Stay the path, friend. Tng gets better in s3, and great going forward. Those first two seasons can be a bit of a slog.

Also, I was never able to watch TOS until after I became a ride or die Trekkie. Now I love it. Lol.

I started looking at this differently after I read some Sarah J. Maas’s books. People were called female or mate there so much, especially around sexual scenes, that it felt like if the author was talking about animals instead of people.

Yep, I’m kind of disappointed about the dislikes. I thought lemmy was better than this.

I think the meme format is confusing. It looks like murderers are trying to stop landlords from going after people who use the term… or both murderers and landlords are afraid of people who use the term? Idk, I had to read the comments to understand what you meant.
