  • Not sure of the compatibility, but you might look into Shelly relays to automate old fixtures, lights and switches. They just wire in parallel to the switch and sit in the electrical box behind it. Also they make GU24 to E26 adapters. I had to buy some for our outside garage lights which are also GU24 sockets as well.

  • Currently I don’t have any mmWave sensors outside of my ecobee thermostat so I haven’t gone as far as creating lights based on presence. Currently I just use timers, adaptive lighting, and have a couple night lights using PIR sensors and a timer. I have been wanting to get some mmWave sensors but haven’t found anything that fits the bill as I want something with an ambient light sensor, mmWave sensor, temp sensor, etc. I have seen the Everything One from Everything Smart Home but at $65 each, I’d be spending a few hundred at least.

Also if you ever want to go back to your RPi, you can use an SSD as your boot drive. I have mine running off this so that I don’t have to use a crappy SD card.

  • I’d argue that this is a symptom, not the cause.

The real issue is that these guys are what most people would call “losers” who sit at home, isolated, playing video games and browsing the internet all day. The right noticed this and targeted them specifically with a bunch of propaganda telling them that it’s not their fault they’re losers, it’s the fault of the left, women, and immigrants.

I used to game with two guys who fall into this category, and over time, their language got more harsh and militant until I couldn’t take it anymore. They always had someone to blame like “SJWs” for their own personal decision to sit at home all day rather than work on their shortcomings. They expected attractive women to want then even though they’d do absolutely nothing to make themselves attractive to others. They’d have wild opinions on far-flung groups that they never actually interacted with personally since they’d cut themselves off from the real world. I saw Steve Bannon’s tactics playing out in real time in their words.

  • It was fascism either way, so you should be happy since you got what you were (and still are) asking for. You seem to be under the impression that the DNC had to support fascism when that isn’t the case and we can all confirm that it wasn’t the case now that they’ve lost yet another election with the exact same garbage strategy.

  • You sound like the type of guy who gets bad review after bad review at their job and when they get passed up for a promotion, blames it on something like DEI.

Absolutely nothing forced the DNC to take such a hard right stance this election after having previously lost using the same terrible strategy. They were more concerned with courting Republican voters and protecting Israel than preserving our democracy and now we’re paying the price for it.

It is a weird moment to take a stance against

I’ve held this stance since 2016, so keep reaching. It’s the DNC who’s continually pushed away their base election after election to the point that they’ve handed over control of the entire government to Republicans. If you want to talk about mental gymnastics, maybe you should start there. They’re supposed to be the opposition not controlled opposition.

  • Because they misunderstood what the vote meant.

Whose job is it to inform voters if not the candidates themselves?

It wasn’t about electing a democrating candidate, it was about keeping Trump out of office*.

This mentality is exactly what allowed Democrats to move so far to the right and lose their base. This time around the Democratic candidates were literally engaging in genocide, attacking immigrants, and attacking the working class while trying to claim that they were the “good guys.” You can only do that when your sole appeal is “well at least we’re not Republicans” rather than having anything meaningful to point to to actually demonstrate that you deserve to win. Diet Republicanism isn’t appealing to anyone and these candidates completely and voluntarily chose to run on that platform even going as far as wasting weeks of campaigning in order to court Dick Cheney’s approval. It was another colossal fuck up by the DNC that once again lead to Donald Trump winning the presidency.

  • I’m not sure your example tracks as there’d be no reason for a grocery store to pay rent without occupying the space. In this analogy, it would need to be some sort of office which would have some tangential effect on surrounding businesses (like restaurants), but those restaurants could just relocate to where the people are now in their homes.
