Sponsorblock is unfortunately just as mandatory as uBlock these days. That said I won’t critique video creators for doing what they need to do to get paid, my critique is leveled squarely at the system itself for making their only recourse for payment “produce propaganda for capitalists”.

I last updated my uBlock yesterday and I haven’t seen a popup since, I might be lucky or maybe Google has backed off for now.

I read the article and my main contention is that it doesn’t establish why we must treat the performance of sex as morally different to any other form of service work. As I said in the other comment I believe that the way we are compelled to treat sex as “different” is a manifestation of patriarchal thinking - there is nothing fundamentally different between a woman who is coerced by poverty into prostitution and a man who is coerced by poverty into agricultural work, and the ways to solve the exploitation in both cases is the same: organization of the workers against the bosses, the abolition of bosses altogether and shifting control of that industry to the workers in it, and ultimately the abolition of the capitalist mode of production that incentivizes maximum exploitation of all who participate in it.

Why do you think it is okay to have an uneven allocation of money in a society so that those on the top can do with those on the bottom as they want?

Of course I don’t think that’s okay, don’t put words in my mouth.

My contention is that sex is morally equivalent to any other form of labor, and I believe that the pedestal we put sex on as a society is a manifestation of patriarchy. It’s no coincidence that for most of human history, sex work has been one of the few labor markets where women have an advantage over men, and thus controlling sex work has been one of the major tools at the patriarchy’s disposal for controlling women’s bodies. The impulse to control sex work is the same as the impulse to force them to wear specific clothing, the only difference is that in Western societies one of those forms of control has had a massive philosophical edifice built around it and the other hasn’t.

Sex work is only inherently built around debasing and dehumanizing yourself if you consider sex itself to be debased and dehumanizing. It’s a service profession like literally any other.

Neither North Korea nor Qatar are fascist. The former is communist and the latter is an absolute monarchy.

Unless you’re saying FIFA is fascist which might be true idk.

I carried a lighter for a while. It worked fine when I put it in my pocket, but the first time I whipped it out for someone it didn’t work at all. They say that that happens to lots of guys but I haven’t carried a lighter since that day.

The alternative is my car which sometimes triggers its alarm even though I’m holding the key.

I love cooking for family, but I’ve also cooked for Denny’s and a getting through a meal service is something else entirely. There’s a reason cooks in general are one of the most alcoholic professions, and it’s not because they spend most of their day doing something they love.

AFAIK it’s just something that hasn’t been tested, but that goes for basically all digital “shrinkwrap contracts” from your iTunes EULA to the license on your github repo. Good luck being the first person to test it if you’re not a major corporation, though.

If the designation of “open source” is such that any open source project can be used by massive corporations or militaries or anything else like that, then the designation “open source” isn’t worth protecting and we need a new one that allows for free use by enthusiasts and other free projects but that is blocked or paywalled from profit-seeking ones.

We can get a computer to tag the birds, answer questions about them, and generate new pictures of them.

“Democratic Socialism” is a term for a specific school of thought within socialism that I am criticizing for its tendency to align with imperial, ie US/NATO foreign policy that has created a system of unequal exchange that keeps most of the world in poverty in order to fund the excesses of the first world. It does not mean “socialism but we have a democracy”, that’s every form of socialism. Also it generally has a different meaning when applied to socialist movements in third world countries, which is why I wouldn’t criticize a party like MAS for the same reason.

I consider China’s Whole-Process People’s Democracy to be the current gold standard democratic process on this planet. Democracy should not end when people vote for their representatives, it should be a constant process of polling and implementing the will of the people, and its success is why Chinese citizens have among the highest satisfaction with their government of anyone.
